Independent candidate Dan Osborn has taken the lead against Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) in the Nebraska Senate race, according to internal polling conducted by his campaign over the weekend.
The poll shows Osborn with a 2-point advantage, leading Fischer 48%-46%. The poll comes after alarm bells began to ring for Republicans when the nonpartisan Cook Political Report shifted the reliably red seat from “solid Republican” to “likely Republican.”
Now, Republicans are pouring millions of dollars into the race to salvage the seat as the party looks to wrest control of the Senate next year. The poll surveyed 815 likely voters between Oct. 18 and 21 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points — meaning the race could come down to the wire on election night.
