Former President Jimmy Carter is expected to cast his ballot for Harris in Georgia in the coming days, according to his grandson Jason Carter.
The Carter Center told NBC News that the former president will be voting by mail, while Jason Carter told reporters that Jimmy Carter is likely to vote in the coming days and that “he needs to be engaged, be interested, and be ready to go” to vote.
Carter was elected president in 1976 but lost his 1980 reelection bid in a landslide to Ronald Reagan. He celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this month.
Georgia does not have a law pertaining to what happens if a voter dies before Election Day after casting an absentee ballot, but WSBTV reported in 2020 that the state still counts the vote because of privacy rules making it difficult to remove the ballot once it is cast.
