Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) claimed he would work to help get Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) elected after he was passed over as Harris’s running mate.

“I am going to continue to pour my heart and soul into serving you every single day as your governor,” said Shapiro at a Philadelphia rally Tuesday evening. “And I’m going to be working my tail up to make sure we make Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the next leaders of the United States of America.”

“Tim Walz is a great man. Tim Walz is an outstanding governor. Tim Walz is a teacher. Tim Walz is a guardsman. Tim Walz is a great patriot,” Shapiro said of Walz, who was announced as Harris’s vice president on Tuesday. Shapiro was on the shortlist of Democratic leaders who could join the ticket but was ultimately passed over. “And I’ll tell you what else. I’ll tell you what else Tim Walz is a dear friend.”

The popular governor slammed former President Donald Trump’s first term in the White House as chaotic, taunted him as a “weirdo” and claimed that Trump’s tenure has resulted in “less freedom” for the American public. The crowd also chanted, “He’s a weirdo” at the mention of GOP VP pick J.D. Vance.

“We remember that it was Donald Trump that ripped away the freedom of millions of American women to make decisions over their own body. We remember that,” Shapiro said alluding to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022, which actually happened under President Joe Biden’s tenure but was indirectly aided by Trump appointing three conservative judges to the high court.

Attendees at the rally chanted “We’re not going back,” repeatedly, a phrase that has caught on since Harris took over the Democratic nomination. “Not only are we not going back, we’re not going into the future with Donald Trump,” Shapiro claimed.
