Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) cruised to victory Tuesday night for Delaware’s Senate seat to replace retiring longtime Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE).

The Associated Press called the contest for Blunt Rochester against Republican Eric Hansen and independent Dr. Mike Katz immediately when polls closed at 8 p.m. EST, with 0% of the ballots counted.

Blunt Rochester will make history as Delaware’s first black and first female senator. Should Democrat Angela Alsobrooks prevail in her Senate race in neighboring Maryland, Blunt Rochester and Alsobrooks would become the first black women to serve simultaneously in the Senate.
