Newsom endorses Harris, not running himself

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) firmly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nominee following the Sunday decision of President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race.

“With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s Vice President, Kamala Harris,” said Newsom in a short post on X.

Newsom described Harris as “tough,” “fearless,” and “tenacious.”

The post firmly quiets any suspicions that Newsom may run against Harris in an open contest at the Democratic National Convention in August.
