Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) will face former Democratic Florida Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in the November general election in what has turned into a slightly competitive contest.

The Associated Press called the primary race for Mucarsel-Powell at 8 p.m. as the last of the Florida polls closed. She received 69.3% of the vote, over triple her closest Democratic competitor.

Though Scott’s seat is rated by Cook Political Report as “likely” Republican, Mucarsel-Powell is preparing to make a comeback to Congress by raking in millions of dollars to unseat Scott. She has raised $14.4 million from donors, while Scott has put $13.7 million of his own money into the election.

A recent poll from Atlantic University/Mainstreet Research USA in August found Scott with a 4 percentage point lead over Mucarsel-Powell.

Scott defeated two Republican challengers easily on Tuesday, securing 84.5% of the vote at the time the race was called.
