Trump ’embraced’ Brazilian leader when he arrived to UN General Assembly

President Donald Trump said he embraced Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the United Nations on Tuesday and that the two would be meeting next week.

“I have a little problem saying this, because I must tell you, I was walking in and the leader of Brazil was walking out,” Trump said. “We saw him, and I saw him. He saw me, and we embraced.”

“We had a good talk, and we agreed to meet next week because that’s of interest. But he seemed like a very nice man. Actually, he liked me. I liked him,” he said.

Trump has been critical of the Brazilian government for what he calls unfair political persecution of its former president, Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro was convicted earlier this month related to his crimes to stage a violent coup to keep himself in power.
