President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the United Nations General Assembly, reaffirming his support of the war-torn country in its war against Russia.
“He’s a brave man, and he’s got one hell of a fight. And we’ll see how that all turns out,” Trump said, noting the meeting with Zelensky is an “important one” on his packed Tuesday schedule.
“We have great respect for the fight that Ukraine is putting up,” he added while seated beside Zelensky. “It’s pretty amazing, actually.”
Trump has played an instrumental role in trying to secure peace between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the White House hosted each leader in separate meetings, Trump expressed his desire to see the two meet directly. So far, no plans for a Putin-Zelensky peace summit are in place.
