The Cook Political Report shifted two House races toward Republicans on Tuesday: Virginia’s 7th Congressional District and New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.
New Jersey’s 7th District, represented by Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ), shifted from “toss-up” to “lean Republican.” Kean is facing Democrat Sue Altman, whose progressive politics have set up attacks from Republicans on policy areas such as law enforcement and taxes.
In Virginia’s 7th District, left vacant by outgoing Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), Republican Derrick Anderson and Democrat Eugene Vindman are running a competitive race for the open seat. The race moved from “lean Democrat” to “toss-up” on Tuesday, as Anderson hits Vindman over his military record and Republicans accuse Vindman of being in lock-step with Democrats — a contrast to the incumbent’s voting record.
