Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) leaned heavily into his past as a high school football coach during his Democratic National Convention speech on Wednesday night.

Often referred to as “Coach Walz” on the campaign trail, the Minnesota governor has made his football past a major point of his persona. He has also touted his time in the military and as a former high school social studies teacher as part of his biography.

“Trump and Vance spend a lot of time pretending they know nothing about Project 2025. But I’ve coached high school football long enough to know when someone draws up a playbook, they’re going to use it,” Walz said.
