Former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn hosted a phone bank for New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani on Sunday, drawing scrutiny from the Justice Department for potential foreign election interference.
Corbyn is a current member of the U.K. Parliament, and his work supporting the Mamdani campaign could be considered illegal.
“I’m hosting a phone bank with @nycDSA to Get Out The Vote for @ZohranKMamdani today at 6pm ET. Let’s get Zohran over the finish line for a New York that’s affordable for all!” he posted on X. The three-hour event is hosted by the Democratic Socialists of America but paid for by Zohran for NYC.

Virginia senators urge voters to ‘send a message’ by electing Spanberger as next governor

FALLS CHURCH, Virginia — Virginia Democratic Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner urged voters in northern Virginia to send a message not just to Washington but to the entire nation by electing Abigail Spanberger as the next governor of the Commonwealth during a Sunday evening campaign rally.
Both senators were also former Virginia governors before they joined Congress. In their joint appearance with Spanberger, a former Democratic representative, they emphasized that Democrats are running on a campaign of affordability, jobs, and education as a counter to President Donald Trump‘s second administration.
“In these three key issues in the campaign, the contrast could not be clearer. And that’s why we have to send a message,” Kaine told a crowd of supporters at the State Theatre. “Let’s not send a soft message. Let’s send a big, loud message with a big margin.”

PURCELLVILLE, VIRGINIA — With just weeks left in office, Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) is making a final, fervent push to cement his legacy and keep Virginia on the path he insists has brought the state back to life.
At a campaign rally for Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, Youngkin stepped onstage in a navy blazer and open-collar shirt, his voice confident and upbeat as he launched into his closing argument for Republicans. “Elections have consequences,” he thundered. “And the consequences as of next Tuesday are about to be fabulous for the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
Framing the election as a “fork in the road,” he cast the choice before voters as moral and economic. “When we choose the right path, when we chase common-sense conservative values, Virginia thrives,” he said. “When we go down the wrong path, Virginia suffers.”

Newsom carves Issa’s home out of his district in Prop 50 map

SAN DIEGO — Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) is a MAGA Republican fighting for his political life in a blue state trying to send President Donald Trump a message and a governor looking to expand his national profile.
Issa’s fight becomes exponentially more difficult if voters pass Proposition 50 on Tuesday, a controversial ballot measure that redraws the state’s congressional lines.
In a wide-ranging interview with the Washington Examiner, Issa criticized the new districts in the map, calling them “disgusting,” and said they were deliberately drawn to eliminate Republican representation in the state. Particularly petty is that mapmakers studied the home addresses of Republican lawmakers and out of spite, drew Issa out of his district, he said.

Supporters of Democratic Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger remain confident her running mate, Jay Jones, will win on Tuesday, even after his “stupid mistake” that caught national attention last month.
Jones, running against incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares, joined Spanberger and former President Barack Obama at a campaign rally in Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday. A month earlier, he was at the center of controversy when a series of leaked messages from 2022 showed Jones spoke of wanting to shoot his political rival, then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, and his children.
Two days out from Election Day, Spanberger supporters spoke negatively about Jones’s text messages to the Washington Examiner, though they still believe he will win.

NORFOLK, Virginia — Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in Virginia, is leaning on Democratic heavyweights and rising stars in her party in the final weeks of her battle to succeed the term-limited Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA).
On Saturday, Spanberger appeared at the Ted Constant Convocation Center with former President Barack Obama, perhaps the most popular Democrat alive, for a high-spirited and packed rally that energized voters ahead of Tuesday’s election.
Obama spent much of his 30-minute speech excoriating President Donald Trump‘s second administration, touting Spanberger, and encouraging Virginians to cast a ballot in the election. The speech was reminiscent of the Obama who ran two successful presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012 on a hopeful, inclusive nation that elected him as the first black commander in chief.

Jeffries dismisses NYC mayoral front-runner Mamdani as ‘future’ of Democratic Party

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) brushed off questions about whether New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, is the future of the party.
Jeffries, currently grappling with the government shutdown, appeared Sunday morning on CNN’s State of the Union, where he was asked whether he sees Mamdani, a self-proclaimed Democratic socialist, as the future.
“No, I think the future of the Democratic Party is going to fall, as far as we’re concerned, relative to the House Democratic Caucus and members who are doing a great work all across the country,” Jeffries said.
Jeffries went on to say that Democrats need to “make sure that we’re communicating to the American people like we understand you deserve better than the country that you have received.”
“Donald Trump and Republicans have gone way too far and have failed to deliver anything meaningful for the American people,” he added.
Jeffries felt pressure from the Left to endorse Mamdani for months and finally gave the mayoral candidate his endorsement late last month. The House minority leader said in a statement that he and Mamdani have “areas of principled disagreement” but that Mamdani won in a “free and fair election.”

Cuomo closes gap with Mamdani, almost margin-of-error race: Poll

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is within single digits of socialist Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral race, a new poll revealed.
The poll, conducted by AtlasIntel, has Mamdani leading the race with 40.6% support and Cuomo trailing behind at 34%. Cuomo is just outside the margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
The result is one of the best of the race for Cuomo since his loss in the Democratic primary.
His campaign celebrated the result and said it represented new momentum in the race.
“The gap is closing fast — we can feel it on the ground everywhere from the Bronx to Staten Island. At this rate, we win the race. Keep going strong,” Cuomo said in a statement shared with the Washington Examiner.
“Six points in this election is nothing,” the former governor later told reporters Saturday.

PURCELLVILLE, VIRGINIA — Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, the Republican nominee for governor, campaigned in Loudoun County on Saturday, rallying supporters at Patrick Henry College in a rare GOP push into one of Virginia’s most closely watched swing counties.
Speaking before a few hundred voters gathered in the college gymnasium, Earle-Sears urged supporters to “finish what we started” and carry the Republican momentum from 2021 into next week’s election.
Once a model of Virginia’s suburban shift leftward, Loudoun is now showing the first hints of movement back, a potential sign that the GOP’s message on parental rights, education, and safety still resonates in northern Virginia’s fast-growing exurbs.

NEWARK, New Jersey — Those thinking former President Barack Obama no longer has electoral influence in New Jersey would find that opinion challenged on Saturday night in Newark.
Long lines wrapped around the venue, hundreds of smiling faces, and the deafening cheers at the mere mention of his name dominated the energy inside the Essex County College gymnasium, where Obama took the stage to rally support for Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), the Democratic candidate in Tuesday’s gubernatorial race.
He was met by applause, whistles, yells, and excited chants from all corners of the venue. Much to the delight of attendees, he came equipped with his trademark dry humor and a repeated line, telling people, “Don’t boo. Go vote.”

NORFOLK, Virginia — Three days before Virginia voters elect a new governor, thousands of excited people, many of them African American, lined up in droves to hear former President Barack Obama rally for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger.
Much of Obama’s speech was targeted to black voters, a crucial constituency for Democrats that will help decide if the congresswoman ascends to the governor’s mansion.
“The point is there is absolutely no evidence Republican policies made life better for you, the people of Virginia,” Obama said on Saturday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. “They’ve devoted enormous energy in trying to entrench themselves in power and punishing their enemies, and enriching their friends and silencing their critics.”

“We’ve got a president who thinks it’s OK to use the Justice Department to go after his political opponents,” Obama said at the Ted Constant Convocation Center as the audience jeered.
“Don’t boo, vote,” Obama quipped, referencing his usual get-out-the-vote phrase on the same day that early voting ends in Virginia.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, a Democrat, posted on X Saturday that New Jersey may experience an upset in its gubernatorial election and Republican Jack Ciattarelli could win.
“NJ may actually have an upset. This is prob great news for Jack’s team as we are a society that likes underdogs and comebacks by nature,” Fulop wrote.
Fulop’s post was in response to an AtlasIntel poll that had Democratic candidate Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) leading by only 0.9 points.
