No one is ‘Cuomosexual’ anymore

Coming soon to a thrift store (or garbage dump) near you: “Cuomosexual” T-shirts.

During the height of the pandemic, as the liberal media had convinced a portion of the public that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was actually doing a pretty good job handling COVID-19, there was an explosion of pro-Cuomo merchandise. From prayer candles to socks, mugs, and of course masks, endless varieties of products encouraged apostles to put their faith in their governor and (supposed) savior Cuomo.

The knick-knacks included bobbleheads and $400 sweaters emblazoned with the uncanny and uncomfortable slogan “Cuomosexual,” supposedly an adjective for a person who found themselves highly attracted to the governor.

That’s not an adjective you can use for most of the women who worked for Cuomo during his 10-year tenure as New York’s executive. Just over a week after a state attorney general report found that he sexually harassed 11 women (including groping and inappropriate comments), Cuomo announced his resignation.

Fans of the slogan may argue that they never saw it coming, but one of Cuomo’s accusers spoke up on Twitter as early as December. One month later, the state attorney general reported that Cuomo had seriously undercounted the number of state nursing home deaths — deaths that his policies caused. That didn’t stop the merchandise from flying off the virtual shelves. But Cuomo’s resignation did.

When the New York Times recently contacted multiple retailers regarding their Cuomo merchandise, several of them pulled the products offline. No word from talk show hosts Trevor Noah and Ellen DeGeneres on whether they still identify as “Cuomosexual.”

What will become of all of the toys, clothes, mugs, and tote bags following the governor’s fall from grace? They’ll likely end up languishing in some trash bag or pile of donations — dishonored, irrelevant, and seen for the hollowness they always had. Just like soon-to-be-former Gov. Cuomo.
