Democrats lied while Chicagoans died

Illinois Democrats, Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, have put on quite the performative show in their resistance to saving Chicagoans from being brutally murdered by violent criminals in the Windy City. Both left-wing politicians have repeatedly stymied President Donald Trump’s offer to deploy the National Guard to help lower violent crime. They regurgitated claims of Chicago being safe. They touted how no one wanted federal troops in the city. They emphasized how crime was decreasing.

But while Democrats lied, Chicagoans died — especially during Labor Day weekend.

In the supposed safe city, where violent crime numbers dropped, and Democrats emphasized how unneeded federal troops were, 58 people were shot there over the holiday weekend, with eight of them dying. This is the urban utopia that Democrats were celebrating. As Pritzker and Johnson were doing multiple media hits explaining why they were refusing Trump’s help, people in Chicago were being shot and murdered. It is so dangerous in Chicago that there was probably another person shot there again just in the time it took me to type these paragraphs.

After the city’s bloody holiday weekend, Johnson acknowledged the violent crime challenges its residents face every day. Yet, instead of offering solutions, suggesting ways to enhance safety, or graciously accepting Trump’s offer to help, the city’s mayor blamed the president and “red states” for Chicago’s strife.

“Chicago will continue to have a ‘violence problem’ as long as Red states continue to have a gun problem,” Johnson posted on X on Tuesday evening. “The endless flow of illegal guns into Chicago can be traced to Red states like Mississippi, Indiana, and Louisiana. It is up to the federal government to step up and stop interstate gun trafficking networks.”

Democrats lie, Chicagoans die.

Johnson’s dishonesty doesn’t even take into consideration the carnage from the homicides of yesteryear in the Windy City. From 2015 to 2024, there were 6,512 people murdered in Chicago. As I previously wrote, this represents a larger total than the number of U.S. military members killed in the Iraq War. It’s also as many as the number of U.S. military deaths combined between the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. It’s a shocking total that reveals Chicago’s true magnitude of danger.

Fortunately, there is at least one Democrat in Chicago who has common sense and seems to be interested in the general welfare of its residents. His name is Raymond Lopez, an alderman from Chicago’s 15th Ward. He’s acknowledged the city’s violent crime reality and criticized Pritzker and Johnson for rejecting Trump’s offer for the National Guard. He emphasized how many Chicagoans regularly live in perpetual fear, wondering if they will be the next victim.

“We know that there’s a perception that people are not safe in the city of Chicago,” Lopez said. “Residents do not feel safe in the city of Chicago. They’re worried when they drop their kids off at school, when they go to work, when they sit on their front porch admiring the summertime weather. Everyone’s worried that they’re going to be robbed, carjacked, or shot in the city of Chicago.”

“And if the mayor and the governor continue to say crime is down, crime is decreasing, everything’s great, then why don’t we take Donald Trump up on his offer and go even further, decrease the numbers even further, the way that they’ve been decreased in Washington, D.C.,” Lopez said.

Lopez took his position one step further. When answering a question about Johnson blaming “red states” for the violence, Lopez pulled no punches.

“I’m actually quite surprised he didn’t blame the Confederacy, Richard Nixon, or colonialism,” Lopez said.

At a time when Democrats are lying, as people in Chicago are dying, Lopez finds himself all alone. He is a true guiding light for Democrats in the Windy City and a beacon of hope for those crime victims that Democrats ignore, dismiss, or accept as collateral damage.

Unless more Democrats start being realistic, many more innocent people will unfortunately continue to suffer.
