Last week’s People magazine contained a special advertising section that should be of interest to all Beltway anthropologists. “Celebrity Fare: Great Dishes from the Stars” revealed favorite recipes of America’s most glamorous celebs: plaintaiLs from Gloria Estefan, blackened catfish from Michael Jordan, rosemary aioli from Steven Spielberg, and sweet corn succotash from . . . James Carville and Mary Matalin? Yes, there they are, in full color, James holding a plate of sbmething edible, Mary holding their infant daughter, who was wise enough to be embarrassed (she’s pretendifig to be asleep). Self-promotion has always been an art highly prized in Washington, but the Carville-Matalin team’s compulsion to get their faces before the public inspires awe. What will they think of next? A cameo on Friends? A pro- am bowling tournament? How about a trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel?
Terrific. But leave the kid at home.
