The heads of the House Intelligence Committee investigation into Russian election interference met with special counsel Robert Mueller Tuesday, the latest in a string of closed-door conversations between Mueller and lawmakers since last week.
The meeting, like one between Mueller and the leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee Wednesday, centered on ensuring that the congressional probe and special counsel probe do not interfere with one another, according to a committee statement.
“We had a productive meeting with Special Counsel Mueller this afternoon to deconflict our concurrent investigations, and look forward to continuing our dialogue with him as both investigations progress,” Texas congressman Mike Conway and California congressman Adam Schiff said in a statement.
Mueller is also reportedly slated to meet with the heads of the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday. The panel is examining the firing of FBI director James Comey and “any alleged improper partisan interference in law enforcement investigations.”
The special counsel is leading a wide-ranging probe that includes the nature of any potential links between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. The investigation has also reportedly expanded to include whether Trump tried to obstruct justice with the Comey firing.
Trump has denounced the various investigations as a “witch hunt.”
They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. Nice
