Has Frank Luntz been focus-grouping the word establishment?
The week before last, Paul Weyrich of the Free Congress Foundation called Colin Powell “the Trojan Horse of the establishment” and “more establishment than Bill Clinton.”
Gary Bauer of the Family Research Council called him “the number one choice of the Washington establishment.” And Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform argued that the GOP should never be “the party of country clubs and the Eastern Establishment.”
Newt Gingrich is the most powerful politician in America just now — and a best-selling author to boot. Republicans dominate Congress and most state governments.
And Messrs. Weyrich, Bauer, and Norquist — long-time Washington regulars all, each an influential figure in the nation’s majority party — are quoted hundreds of times a year in the New York Times and the Washington Post.
What “establishment” are they referring to, exactly?
