Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported Friday that it arrested 331 criminal aliens and other immigration violators during a month-long effort in six Midwestern states.
The six states included Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Kansas and Missouri.
The individuals were arrested for crimes such as aggravated sexual abuse, aggravated assault on an officer, drug trafficking, a sex offense against a child, hit and run, weapons offenses and battery.
ICE provided two specific examples of arrests in each state. For example, in Illinois a 38-year-old Mexican national and Latin Kings gang member was arrested for prior convictions of aggravated assault on an officer and drug possession.
ICE plans to deport all of these individuals.
Ricardo Wong, field officer director for enforcement and removal in Chicago, stated in light of the arrests, “Our dedicated officers strive to make our communities safer by arresting convicted criminal aliens and removing them from the United States. By focusing our resources on the most egregious offenders, we ensure the very best use of our resources while immediately improving public safety.”
The number of arrests by state broke down as such:
- Illinois: 107
- Indiana: 25
- Kansas: 70
- Kentucky: 49
- Missouri: 34
- Wisconsin: 39
