D.C. school damaged in fire

A Northwest Washington school sustained major damage in a fire Wednesday, fire and school officials said.

The blaze broke out at the Takoma Educational Campus at about 10:15 a.m. Classes were not in session due to winter break, and the school district said in a statement that the 10 staff members inside the building evacuated without injury.

The school sustained “significant” damage, the statement said, and students will not be able to return in January. Relocation plans are being developed and a meeting for Takoma parents will be scheduled next week.

Fire officials said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
