Hillary Clinton said her status as the first woman to nab the Democratic presidential nomination will put world leaders on notice, according to an ABC News interview clip released late Tuesday.
“It is of course symbolic,” Clinton told ABC News host David Muir about her position as a female leader. “But symbols mean something and symbols can often can spark hope and action in people — particularly young people. I think it will be a real milestone with my nomination for our country, but it will also send a signal around the world.”
The former secretary of state has said she has “unfinished business,” a term some believed referred to winning the nomination in 2016 since she lost it in 2008 to then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.
But Clinton explained that her Tuesday celebration for having surpassed the delegate count to win the nomination was just as much about taking a step forward for women and how that affects women in the U.S., but also in every country. Clinton called her victory “good for democracy and good for peace and prosperity.”
The full interview will air Wednesday on “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight.”
