The Pentagon released a series of photos Thursday night showing the launch of the Tomahawk cruise missiles that struck a Syrian airfield and provided evidence of the chemical attack waged by the government of President Bashar Assad this week.
The images show the missiles illuminating a ship deck in the dark of night, some of the 59 launched at the Shayrat airfield in the Homs province of western Syria, and an aerial view of the airfield’s triangular runways.

“We are assessing the results of the strike,” Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman. “Initial indications are that this strike has severely damaged or destroyed Syrian aircraft and support infrastructure and equipment at Shayrat Airfield, reducing the Syrian government’s ability to deliver chemical weapons. The use of chemical weapons against innocent people will not be tolerated.”
