Roy Moore bashes Romney, says he has ‘lost courage’ or ‘doesn’t care about truth’

Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore shot back at Mitt Romney after the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee said Moore would be a “stain” on the nation and the Republican Party if he were elected to the Senate.

“Either @MittRomney has lost his courage or he doesn’t care about truth anymore. Sad day!” Moore tweeted Monday.

“America’s reawakening was led by @realDonaldTrump, not you Mitt,” he added.

Romney argued that honor and integrity were more important than votes or maintaining a Republican majority in the Senate, and voiced support for the women who have accused Moore of sexual misconduct.

“Roy Moore in the US Senate would be a stain on the GOP and on the nation,” Romney tweeted Monday. “Leigh Corfman and other victims are courageous heroes. No vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity.”

The Washington Post reported the initial accusations against Moore last month. In that report, four women, including Corfman, accused Moore of pursuing sexual and romantic relations with them when they were between the ages of 14 and 18, while he was in his 30s. Other women have come forward with additional allegations since then. Moore has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Moore, who was officially endorsed by President Trump on Monday, is up against Democrat Doug Jones next week in the Alabama special election to fill the remainder of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ U.S. Senate term.
