Fatal shooting at Central Michigan University due to ‘domestic situation’

Two non-students were killed in a shooting that took place inside a dormitory at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., campus police tweeted Friday morning.

“CMU police confirm two individuals were fatally shot at Campbell Hall on campus this morning. The deceased are not students and police believe the situation started from a domestic situation. There are no additional injuries; suspect is still at large,” the university said in a statement.

The school alerted students and faculty of possible shots fired at the Campbell Hall dormitory on campus around 9:30 a.m. Friday. The shooting took place at about 9 a.m.

Mount Pleasant Police, as well as federal and state law enforcement, were still on the ground looking for the suspect two hours after the shooting.

The shooter is believed to be a 19-year-old black man wearing mustard yellow jeans and a blue hoodie. Fox News named James Eric Davis, Jr. as the suspect.

Another report said the suspect was released from a nearby hospital around 8 a.m. Friday, then went to the school to carry out the attack.

Gov. Rick Snyder, R-Mich., said he is aware of the ongoing manhunt.
