The lights are going out on King Street this Friday, as city officials will turn off the holiday lights that adorn trees along Old Town’s main road.
The City Council had considered keeping the lights on all year round at the urging of Councilwoman Del Pepper, but ultimately decided against spending the $200,000 needed for electricity and maintenance of the tree lights to keep them running all year.
City employees will shut off the lights April 1 and plan to turn them back on for the holiday season beginning in November.
