Trump: NFL’s Roger Goodell trying ‘to justify the total disrespect certain players show to our country’

President Trump kept his war of words with the NFL rolling Saturday evening by condemning NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for not taking a stand against his league’s players who kneel during the national anthem.

“Roger Goodell of NFL just put out a statement trying to justify the total disrespect certain players show to our country.Tell them to stand!” Trump tweeted.

The feud started Friday evening at a rally for Sen. Luther Strange when Trump called out NFL players: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired. He’s fired,'” Trump said.

Goodell released a statement Saturday morning calling the president’s comments “divisive,” and saying he has a lack of respect for the NFL.
