The Arlington County Board member was elected to the Virginia State Senate last week, but local GOP officials are already calling for her to immediately resign her board position so the county can speed the special election to replace her. Favola must resign before Nov. 26 for the county to hold a special election in January, Arlington Republicans say. If she doesn’t, the election cannot be held until April. Favola, a Democrat, called the GOP demand “bizarre” and said she’s not changing her planned resignation date of Dec. 30.
