George Zimmerman, the Florida man infamous for shooting, killing and being acquitted for the murder of Trayvon Martin, is auctioning off the gun used to do it.
Fox35 News in Orlando first broke the news.
In an interview with Fox35 News, Zimmerman said of selling the gun, “I thought it was time to move past the firearm, and if I sell it and it sells I move past it.”
He added: “What I’ve decided to do is not cower; I’m a free American I can do what I want with my possessions.”

The auction begins on Thursday at 11 a.m. Eastern and 24-hours later.
Zimmerman calls the firearm, a Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm, a “piece of American history,” in the item description on gunbroker.com, an online auction website for firearms.
“The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012,” the description for the item says, noting that Zimmerman was just returned the gun by the Justice Department.
The description also notes that “many” have expressed interest in “owning and displaying the firearm including The Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.”
“The firearm is fully functional as the attempts by the Department of Justice on behalf of B. Hussein Obama to render the firearm inoperable were thwarted by my phenomenal Defense Attorney,” the item description says.
According to the website, money received for the gun “will be used to: fight BLM violence against Law Enforcement officers, ensure the demise of Angela Correy’s persecution career and Hillary Clinton’s anti-firearm rhetoric.”
Pictures of the gun from the 2013 trial, as well as the gun alone, are featured.
Zimmerman, who identifies himself as Hispanic, fatally shot 17-year-old Martin, who was black, on Feb. 26, 2012 in his neighborhood in Sanford, Fla., where he was the neighborhood watch coordinator. Martin was unarmed.
Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, with his trail beginning on June 10, 2013. He was acquitted roughly four weeks later on the grounds that he acted in self-defense under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.
“The foundation has no comment on the actions of that person,” the Trayvon Martin Foundation said in a statement.
