Hillary Clinton is expected to be closer to the Democratic nomination Tuesday, but one late poll suggests she is in for some close races against Bernie Sanders.
While Clinton has made several campaign stops in Connecticut in the past week, she only leads Sanders 48-46, according to Public Policy Polling numbers released on Monday. Clinton’s small lead in the state is aided by her 63-24 advantage among African-American voters.
In Rhode Island, Sanders leads Clinton 49-45, as the Vermont Senator has traditionally done well among New England voters. The state’s independent voters favor him 67-28. But Pennsylvania has the most delegates at stake, where she leads Sanders 51-41.
On the Republican side of the race, Donald Trump leads by large margins in all three states. In Connecticut Trump leads Cruz and Kasich 59-25-13 and in Pennsylvania he leads them 51-25-22. In Rhode Island Trump still leads the pack with 61 percent, but Kasich beats Cruz 23-13.
In addition to the three polled states, Maryland and Delaware will also vote on Tuesday. Public Policy Polling interviewed 1,211 likely voters in Connecticut, 1,554 in Pennsylvania and 1,179 in Rhode Island between April 22 and 24 on behalf of VoteVets.org Action Fund, with a margin of error of +/- 2.5-4.3 percent.
