Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday that he planned to stay in President Trump’s cabinet through at least 2020, when the president’s current term ends. He added that he was open to staying longer, should that request be made.
“I am absolutely going to be here through 2020, and if the president wants me here for the second term, I’ll be here for that as well,” Mnuchin said at a forum hosted Thursday by the Hill. “It is by far the most interesting job that I have ever had.”
Mnuchin said that he loved the breadth and depth of the issues that he is involved with as secretary, ranging from taxes to national security, foreign policy, “and the one thing I never thought I’d get involved in: The Post Office.”
He said that one of the most important things he had done as secretary was last year’s tax reform package: “Our entire economic plan was how do we get the economy at 3 percent sustained GDP? … The tax act was a major component of that.” He said an infrastructure bill was a priority for next year.
