Jason Miller, communications director for President-elect Trump’s campaign, would not confirm or deny a report about an administration hire that broke while he was on Fox News’ “Kelly File” Wednesday night.
Good Morning America reported at 8:45 p.m. EST that “President-elect @realDonaldTrump announces Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as his National Security Advisor.”
Miller was visibly caught off guard when host Megyn Kelly inquired about the news to start off the interview.
“No formal announcement yet for that position,” Miller said. “General Flynn met with the president-elect today. He has been a companion on the campaign trail quite a bit as we have seen over the past few months.”
“Are you denying it? Will you deny it here?” Kelly asked.
“I think he would be a fantastic addition somewhere in the administration. I will leave that to the president make that decision,” Miller said, refusing to state when Trump plans to announce this reported hire.
The ABC show’s Twitter account then deleted the original tweet around 9:30 p.m. and said it had learned Flynn was a “contender” for the job.
