Dominica Prime Minister rescued from his home after Hurricane Maria rips off its roof

Dominca Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced on Facebook he had been rescued as he posted some Facebook updates regarding Hurricane Maria, a Category Five hurricane sweeping through the Caribbean.

“The winds are merciless!” he said in a Facebook post. “We shall survive by the grace of God!”

“Certainly no sleep for anyone in Dominica,” he said in a separate post. “I believe my residence may have sustained some damage.”

“We do not know what is happening outside,” he added. “We dare not look out. All we are hearing is the sound of galvanize flying. The sound of the fury of the wind. As we pray for its end!”

Hurricane Maria hit Dominica Monday night. It is expected to hit the Virgin Islands on Tuesday and Puerto Rico late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
