Bernie Sanders slammed the “unspeakable” act committed by a man who brought a Nazi flag to one of his rallies.
The Vermont senator appeared on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday with host Jake Tapper and excoriated the man who was kicked out of his Thursday rally. Sanders said the man was an anti-Semite who was shouting “vulgar things.”
“The idea that there was a swastika, a symbol of everything that this country stands against. We lost 400,000 people fighting that symbol, fighting Nazism. Six million Jews were killed, other people were killed,” the 2020 Democrat said.
“Obviously, it is unspeakable. It is disgusting. It is something, and I got to tell you, I never expected in my life as an American to see a swastika at a major political rally. Horrible,” he added.
Soon after Sanders stepped on stage at his Phoenix rally, a man in the stands behind him unfurled a Nazi flag and began waving it as people cheered for Sanders. The crowd’s cheers quickly turned into boos as attendees began pointing out the man in the back, waving the red, black, and white flag.
Another person in the stands ripped the Nazi flag out of the man’s hands, and campaign security guards grabbed and escorted him from the event. As he was leaving, the man continued shouting racial slurs.
