Kylie Jenner appears on cover of Vogue Hong Kong ‘Act Now’ issue amid crackdown on dissidents

Wearing a maroon latex dress with a plunging neckline, Kylie Jenner appeared on the cover of Vogue Hong Kong‘s “Act Now” issue.

The 22-year-old celebrity took to Twitter on Saturday to share the August 2020 cover, writing, “Vogue babyyy thank you Vogue Hong Kong for this cover.”

Vogue on Monday explained the reason for picking Jenner for the cover.

“At the age of just 22, her beauty brand Kylie Cosmetics has achieved far reaching success, and she is also active in charitable causes including funding surgeries for children with cleft lips and palates through Smile Train,” the publication said.

China recently instituted a new law for Hong Kong that has been used to crack down on dissidents. Protesters have been arrested for carrying Hong Kong independence flags, and pro-democracy activists have been barred from running for office in the city. The city’s Legislative Council election has been delayed for a year over concerns about the coronavirus, but activists believe the move was intended to deter supporters of the pro-democracy movement.

Jenner’s appearance on the cover has received much praise. E! said Jenner “brought the heat.” Allure said she was “looking cool as ever.”
