The former campaign manager for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential bid said Wednesday that he still believes Cruz could have gone all the way to the Republican convention and even won the nomination, despite Donald Trump’s clear delegate majority.
“I think we could have taken it to a convention if we stayed in. I think we could’ve gotten to 1,237,” Jeff Roe told ABC News.
Still, he said staying in the race with Donald Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich would have been “just too long of a fight” for the candidate and team to endure.
“That’s why we got out, the path was shrinking,” Roe admitted.
Cruz will speak Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention, but it is unknown if he will formally endorse the official Republican nominee.
