President Trump on Tuesday reignited his feud with Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., by saying Corker opposes Republican-led tax cuts, and will oppose anything the president wants because Trump didn’t endorse him.
“Bob Corker, who helped President O give us the bad Iran Deal & couldn’t get elected dog catcher in Tennessee, is now fighting Tax Cuts … Corker dropped out of the race in Tennesse [sic] when I refused to endorse him, and now is only negative on anything Trump. Look at his record!” Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.
Update: Bob Corker: Trump will be remembered most for the ‘debasement of our nation’
Later, he added, “Isn’t it sad that lightweight Senator Bob Corker, who couldn’t get re-elected in the Great State of Tennessee, will now fight Tax Cuts plus!”

Trump fired that volley at Corker just hours before he was due to visit the Capitol to meet with Senate Republicans during their weekly policy luncheon.

Trump’s relationship with the Senate Foreign Relations chairman has become complicated in the last few weeks. Corker criticized the Trump White House and called it an “adult day care” and said Trump was leading the U.S. toward World War III. Trump has also repeatedly hit Corker for working with Democrats to make it easier for the Senate to provide its defacto support for the Iran deal.
The name-calling could complicate Senate Republicans’ efforts to pass tax reform though Trump has insisted it will not interfere.
On Tuesday morning, Corker urged the White House to “step aside” and allow congressional committees to handle how to make up the $1 trillion tax cut Trump has requested.
Earlier: Bob Corker to Trump: Leave foreign policy to ‘the professionals for a while’
“Really, when you look at the fact that we’ve got this issue in North Korea and the president continues to knee-cap his diplomatic representative, the secretary of state, and really move him away from successful diplomatic negotiations with China, which is key to this, you’re taking us on a path to combat,” Corker said.
“The president undermines our secretary of state, raises tensions in the area by virtue of the tweets that he sends out, and I would just like him to leave it to the professionals for a while and see if we can do something that’s constructive for our country, the region and the world.”
Corker also responded to Trump’s tweet by calling him “untruthful.”
“Same untruths from an utterly untruthful president. #AlertTheDaycareStaff,” Corker tweeted.
