A new survey shows that Democrats are divided on the question of ending their nomination madness and creating an Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama ticket. According to a Gallup poll released today, 51 percent of Democrats overall favor Clinton and Obama settling their differences and forming a “dream ticket” immediately, while 45 percent say they want the campaign to continue. But comparing Clinton supporters to Obama supporters paints a more interesting picture. A strong majority of Clinton supporters (59 percent to 39 percent) say they want the two to come together now. On the other hand, a slim majority of Obama’s allies oppose the idea. Forty-five percent of the Illinois Senator’s supporters say they want a joint ticket, while 52 percent say they want the campaign to continue. The Gallup question does not test how Clinton or Obama partisans would respond to their respective candidate’s taking the top spot or the vice president slot. I wonder what percentage of either candidate’s supporters would still like the idea of a “dream ticket” if their man or woman was not slated for the top spot.
