George Will’s announcement Friday that he is leaving the Republican Party did not come as a surprise to Donald Trump, who has repeatedly insulted the conservative commentator during campaign rallies and interviews.
Trump said Sunday morning that the “overrated” Fox News pundit had “lost his way long ago.”

“This is not my party,” Will reportedly told the Federalist Society during a speech last week. The Pulitzer-prize winning writer said after his speech that he had changed his Maryland voter registration to “unaffiliated.”
Will has long been critical of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, writing back in April that “Trump’s damage to the Republican Party, although already extensive, has barely begun.”
