The Shelby County Republican Executive Committee unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday in support of Roy Moore as the GOP candidate for the state’s vacant U.S. Senate seat.
The resolution touts the willingness of committee members to “assist and support” Moore as he tries to win the special election, according to a copy of the resolution obtained by the Alabama Political Reporter.
The Winston County Republican Executive Committee reportedly passed a similar resolution on Monday. Both pledges of support come prior to the Alabama Republican Steering Committee’s Wednesday meeting to discuss the fate of Roy Moore as the GOP candidate, according to the Alabama Political Reporter. The resolution passed by Shelby County Tuesday calls for the Alabama GOP to follow suit and support Moore.
“[W]e call on Republicans in Alabama to support Roy Moore and defeat that Democrat Party candidate so that our voice in Washington D.C. will continue to be represented,” the resolution reads.
Moore came under fire after the Washington Post published a report last week alleging Moore pursued sexual relationships with four teenage girls, one of whom was 14, while he was in 30’s. On Monday, another woman came forward accusing Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was 16.
