A Japanese man was arrested after authorities say he called a phone company thousands of times.
Akitoshi Okamoto, 71, was arrested last week in Tokyo. Police there said that he called phone company KDDI 24,000 times over the course of eight days to complain that it had violated his contract, according to AFP.
The calls were toll-free, but there may have been even more calls than previously thought. Some media outlets have reported that he made thousands of more calls to the company from public pay phones. During the calls, he insulted customer service staff and would hang up abruptly.
“He demanded that KDDI staff come to him to apologize for violating his contract. He also repeatedly hung up his calls immediately after placing them,” a police spokesman said.
Okamoto was booked on suspicion of “fraudulent obstruction of business,” according to the spokesman.
