A new Harris poll shows that 55% of women between the ages of 18 and 54 support socialism.
The poll made for “Axios on HBO” found that the majority of men would prefer capitalism. The poll found in total that 4 in 10 Americans support socialism.
The split on positive and negative views of socialism also seems to be affected by what Americans believe the word means. The poll found 49% of Americans believe socialism is a system dependent on a dictatorship while 46% of Americans think socialism means a democratic government.
When it comes to policy proposals, over three-quarters of Americans say socialism includes universal healthcare and 57% say it would include state-controlled media and communications.
In May, a Gallup poll found that 51% of Americans think socialism would be bad while 43% supported socialism.
In 1942, only 25% of Americans said they thought socialism was a good thing.
