By a margin of 53%-38%, the public is opposed to K-12 schools opening fully in the fall.
The new Politico/Morning Consult poll also finds that more people oppose opening colleges and universities in the fall, 50%-41%. The poll of 1,992 registered voters was conducted from July 10-12.
The Trump administration has been pushing hard in recent weeks to have schools open for the 2020 school year. On Tuesday, President Trump criticized the decision by the Los Angeles school officials to keep classrooms closed this autumn.
Respondents disapprove of the job Trump is doing 56%-41%. When asked if the country is on the right or wrong track, over 7 in 10 said the wrong track.
The survey also asked about the choice of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate. Thirty-two percent said it was important that he chooses a woman versus 50% who said it was unimportant. On picking a person of color as a running mate, 27% said it was important, while 53% said it was unimportant.
However, half of respondents said it was important that Biden choose someone younger than he is versus 33% who said it was unimportant.
