Woman who allegedly led ISIS battalion charged with aiding terrorist organization

A Kansas woman who allegedly joined the Islamic State group and led a battalion was arrested in Syria and is accused of providing material aid to a terrorist organization.

Officials from the FBI took 42-year-old Allison Fluke-Ekren into custody, stating that she had been involved with planning and recruiting for an attack, leading a women’s battalion, and providing material support to ISIS operatives. Fluke-Ekren is charged with providing and conspiring to offer material resources or support to a known terrorist organization.

“Fluke-Ekren allegedly told a witness about her desire to conduct an attack in the United States,” according to a statement from the Justice Department.

“To conduct the attack, Fluke-Ekren allegedly explained that she could go to a shopping mall in the United States, park a vehicle full of explosives in the basement or parking garage level of the structure, and detonate the explosives in the vehicle with a cell phone triggering device,” the statement said.

Fluke-Ekren traveled from the U.S. to Syria, where in 2016 she was appointed the leader of the Khatiba Nusaybah group, a battalion of female ISIS members married to ISIS soldiers, according to the criminal complaint.

In addition to serving as the leader of the Khatiba Nusaybah, Fluke-Ekren has been involved in organizing and finding operatives for a future attack on a college campus in the U.S. and training women operatives on how to fire AK-47 assault rifles and use grenades and suicide belts.

“Additionally, Fluke-Ekren allegedly provided ISIS and ISIS members with services, which included providing lodging, translating speeches made by ISIS leaders,” and “training children” how to use AK-47 assault rifles.
