Andrew Gillum leads Ron DeSantis by 4 in Florida governor race: Poll

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, and the Democratic nominee taking on Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., in November’s governor’s race, is leading the congressman by 4 points, according to new poll results.

A Florida Chamber of Commerce poll release Wednesday shows Gillum leading with 47 percent of the votes, and DeSantis with 43 percent.

Two percent of those polled say they will likely vote for someone else, and 8 percent say they are still undecided on who they will vote for for governor of Florida.

The poll indicates that 48 percent of likely voters believe the state is headed in the right direction. Thirty-seven percent of those polled believe the state is headed in the wrong direction.

Gillum, who is backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., would be the first black man to be Florida’s governor if he won in November. He beat former Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla., last month in the state’s Democratic primary.

DeSantis has the endorsement of President Trump. But that may not be a boon here as a Quinnipiac University poll conducted earlier this month found that 51 percent of Florida respondents gave Trump a negative job approval rating.

During the primary elections, DeSantis received almost double the amount of primary votes as Gillum with 916,298 votes compared to Gillum’s 522,164.

The poll was conducted Sept. 6-9 and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.4 percent.
