Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., thanked Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Monday for giving her a potentially life-saving Heimlich maneuver last week after she started choking at a Democratic caucus lunch event.
But unbeknownst to Manchin, his quick thinking left his Senate colleague with an injured rib.
“My thanks to @Sen_JoeManchin. And a sore rib for a few weeks is no big deal. I play hurt. The work goes on,” McCaskill wrote on Twitter Monday, referring to how she continued to campaign over the weekend ahead of her 2018 re-election bid despite the injury.

McCaskill began choking at a luncheon held for Democratic senators last Thursday before Manchin dislodged whatever was stuck in her throat by applying pressure to her abdomen. Two other unidentified people had tried to help her before Manchin stepped in.
She participated in Senate votes Thursday afternoon before flying home to Missouri, according to the Washington Post.
McCaskill and Manchin both face tough re-elections on Nov. 6 in states Trump won handily in 2016.
