Two victims are dead and 12 are injured after a gunman shot at pedestrians along a busy Toronto street before opening fire on a crowded restaurant Sunday night.
The 29-year-old shooter was found dead in a nearby alley, bringing the death toll from the incident to three, although it is unclear if his death was a result of exchange of gunfire with police or if he took his own life, the Globe and Mail reported.
Police have not released a possible motive yet, but Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders confirmed the man was using a handgun to carry out the attack.
“When we can provide more information we definitely will, but right now it’s important we don’t speculate,” the Saunders said late Sunday night.
He also said one of the deceased is a young woman, but no details were available yet about the second victim who died. Saunders said several other victims of the attack were gravely wounded, including a young girl, around 8- or 9-years-old, who was in critical condition as of Sunday night.
The shooting follows a random van attack in Toronto just three months ago, which resulted in the death of 10 people and 16 others were injured.
