Joe Biden, Lady Gaga release video advocating push to end sexual assault

Former Vice President Joe Biden and musical artist Lady Gaga unveiled a video Wednesday advocating a push to end sexual assault as part of the “It’s On Us” campaign, which was launched by Biden and former President Barack Obama in 2014.

“We want to make it real clear, it’s on us — it’s on everyone — to intervene, to stop abuse when they see it and when they hear about it, and to intervene,” Biden says.

“No man has a right to raise a hand to a woman for any reason other than self-defense, ever. Period,” he added.

“I am a sexual assault survivor, and I know the effects, the aftermath, the trauma — psychological, physical, mental,” Lady Gaga said. “It can be terrifying waking up every day feeling unsafe in your own body.”

“But we’re here to remind you that it’s important to reach out to someone in your life that you can trust, and to know that they will be there to help you; there will be someone to listen. Because you know what? It’s on us.”

The video was posted Wednesday on Lady Gaga’s Twitter account after the sexual harassment and assault allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein spurred a national conversation about the issue of sexual abuse awareness.
