Fauci leads list of nominees for Time ‘Person of the Year’ award

The list of nominees for Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” award includes Dr. Anthony Fauci, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The nomination poll opened on Wednesday and is based on readers submitting a “yes” or “no” response as to whether a specific person should be given the award, and several prominent Democrats were nominated, according to the New York Post.

Cuomo received a “yes” vote from 35% of respondents, which was slightly below Ocasio-Cortez, who received support from 38%.

President-elect Joe Biden fared better, securing 64% support, and his running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, received 68%.

At the top of the list, Fauci received 81% support, which is tied with the essential employees and doctors who have been on the front lines battling the coronavirus pandemic.

Prominent Republicans did not perform as well, with President Trump, who won the award in 2016, bringing in 8% support and Vice President Mike Pence even lower, with 3%.

Final results will be revealed by Dec. 10, after Time editors select a winner.

The award was given to teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg in 2019.
