SLIDELL, La. (AP) — The Navy has awarded a $212 million contract for a Textron Inc. facility in Slidell to design and build an amphibious landing craft called a “Ship-to-Shore Connector.”
Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office said the contract announced Friday includes options that could make it worth as much as $570 million.
Landrieu’s office says Textron will build a boat with a 30-year service life capable of carrying a 74-ton payload and traveling at speeds of more than 35 knots.
Sen. David Vitter said the contract means “good, sustainable jobs for Louisiana.”
