Bill seeks to bring Howard Board of Elections in line with state board

Del. Frank Turner, D-District 13, is proposing a measure aimed at bringing the Howard County Board of Elections on par with the state board.

The bill would increase the membership of the county?s board from three to five members, three of whom would be from the majority party.

In the case of a vacancy, the governor would appoint a person of the same political party to the seat, according to the measure.

The bill also boosts the compensation of the Board of Elections to $3,000 from $2,800 for the president and $2,500 from $2,000 for regular members.

The measure would “bring it more in line with the stateBoard of Elections,” Turner said.

He said he has another year to see this measure through, so he is introducing the bill for more comment and insight from his colleagues.

“I am kind of putting it out there with no expectations but to give the whole delegation reasons to think about it,” he said.
