Bob Woodward’s second Trump book to be released ahead of 2020 election

Veteran journalist Bob Woodward’s second book about the Trump administration will be released two months before the 2020 election.

The book, the title and cover of which have not yet been disclosed publicly, will be released on Sept. 15, according to CNN. This will be Woodward’s second book about President Trump, who claims he was interviewed for this one.

“I was interviewed by a very, very good writer, reporter,” he told Fox News host Laura Ingraham in January. “I can say Bob Woodward. He said he’s doing something, and this time I said, ‘Maybe I’ll sit down.'”

Fear, the Watergate sleuth’s first book on Trump, was released on Sept. 11, 2018. Simon & Schuster announced the very next day that the book was already a record-setter for the publishing company. The book sold more than 1 million copies across all platforms in its first week, and sold more than 2 million copies in all, according to the publisher.

The book largely focused on the inner workings of the Trump White House over which the cloud of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation loomed largely. Woodward relied on hundreds of hours of interviews with people on “deep background,” as well as meeting notes, personal diaries, files, and government or personal documents.

Woodward said Trump declined to be interviewed for that book, and afterward, the president accused Woodward of making up quotes attributed to him.

Woodward, who is best known for his investigative reporting with Carl Bernstein that shed light on the Watergate scandal leading to President Richard Nixon’s resignation in 1974, heavily leans on the practice of recording conversations and has said he is looking for tapes of conversations of Trump and people in his inner circle.
