Double shooting, one death in Arlington

The Arlington Police Department is investigating the third homicide of 2006, the shooting death of an 18-year-old in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood.

The deadly shooting happened at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday and also resulted in a second victim, a 17-year-old boy, being hospitalized.

“Officers responded to the 900 block of South Dinwiddie Street for a report of gunshots,” said Matthew Martin, a spokesperson for the Arlington County police. “While officers were en route to that location, staff members at Virginia Hospital Center reported that two men had arrived with gunshot wounds.”

Police are not releasing the name of the 18-year-old pending notification of family members, and said the shooting seemed to be the result of an argument with a third man.

Police said that while they know there was a third man involved, they didn’t yet have a suspect.

The 17-year-old’s wounds were initially considered non-life-threatening. By press time his condition had deteriorated and the non-life-threatening classification was removed.
